Holistic Early Education

Inspiring Young Minds Through Play, Discovery, and Community

Curriculum

Inspiring young minds through exploration, creativity, and a strong academic foundation

The Three Prime Areas:

  • Concentrating on “making relationships” with peers and adults through play and conversation. Developing “self-confidence and self-awareness” by encouraging children to speak up in a group and ask for help when they need it. “Managing feelings and
behaviour” where children develop a sense of empathy towards others and learn to behave appropriately in different situations.

  • Where the focus is on “Listening and attention”,
Conversation and concentration skills, “understanding” instructions and “speaking” to peers and adults in a variety of situations.

  • “Movement” of equipment. This includes sports equipment as well
as equipment used in the class-room, such as construction e.g. foam bricks and mobilo.
“Health and self-care”, teaching children to understand what being healthy means and being able to care for themselves for example dressing and going to the bathroom independently.

The Four Specific Areas:

  • “Reading”, laying the foundations for children’s reading through rhyme, letter sounds, stories and books. “Writing”, allowing children to make marks on paper and assign meaning to them. Looking at letter formations and learning to write their name.

  • “Number”, learning to count, recognise, understand and compare numbers and groups of objects. Begin to have an understanding of simple addition and subtraction.
“Space, shape and measure”, learning about shapes and patterns and exploring with measurement, height and weight and developing mathematical language.

  • – “People and communities”, children talk about home and past
experiences and begin to have an understanding of other cultures. “The world”, exploring the environment and observing animals and nature.

“Technology”, making use of the technology of offer for example, computers and interactive whiteboard and developing an
    understanding for technological toys.

“Problem Solving”, formulating and testing out ideas.

  • – “Exploring and using media and materials”; singing songs and
using instruments, leaning about colours and textures and building structures using a variety of materials and tools. “Being imaginative”; through role-play, singing, art, dance and drama.

The Four Principles Which Form The Basis of EYFS

A Unique Child

Every child is unique, always learning, growing stronger, more capable, confident, and self-assured through their own experiences and development.

Positive Relationships

Through positive relationships, children gain confidence, resilience, and independence, learning to navigate the world with strength and trust.

Enabling Environments

Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, where
their individual needs are met and links are strong between school and home life.

Learning & Development

Children learn and develop in diverse ways. The framework supports all children in early years settings, including those with special needs or disabilities.

Our curriculum is thoughtfully designed to blend structured activities with free exploration, nurturing children’s natural curiosity and laying a strong foundation for success in Kindergarten and beyond.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), a framework that sets the standards for early years education, and complement this with selected Montessori principles to support each child’s unique learning journey.

In addition to core subjects like Literacy and Numeracy, our morning sessions include science, topic studies, Physical Education (P.E.), and swimming. Our facilities feature an outdoor heated swimming pool, supervised by professional swimming instructors who are also qualified lifeguards, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for the children.

Children also participate in our in-house weekly music, yoga, and horse-riding sessions, all led by specialist teachers. These activities spark imagination, enhance creativity, and promote physical development. Practical life exercises are integrated into the curriculum to encourage independence and build essential life skills.

In the afternoons, children engage in a variety of enriching activities, including football, cookery, and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics). These sessions provide opportunities for exploration, creativity, and hands-on learning.

Throughout the year, we host a range of special events that enrich the children’s experiences and foster a strong sense of community. Our annual calendar includes highlights such as Sports Day, a Swimming Gala, a visit from Santa, an Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween dress-up, and other events. These occasions create lasting memories and strengthen the bonds within our KJA family.

The Seven Areas of Learning

The EYFS consists of seven areas of learning, delivered through a variety of engaging activities and group sessions.
