Lunch and Snacks

All children receive a healthy snack and mineral water daily. For children staying in the afternoon, a nutritious and well-balanced lunch is provided, with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options.

At KJA, we take food allergies and intolerances very seriously. We are a NUT FREE school and our meals can be adapted to accommodate specific dietary requirements.

Safety

All students at KJA are covered by AAR rescue services, and our team includes teachers and assistants who are fully trained in First Aid.

While every precaution is taken to ensure your child’s safety at school, accidents can occur. Minor injuries will be treated with general first aid procedures, and parents will be informed. In the event of a more serious injury, parents will be asked to collect the child, and if necessary, the AAR ambulance will be called.

Uniform

Children are required to wear the KJA School Uniform and a P.E./Sports Uniform on P.E. days.

All children must wear comfortable shoes that are easy to run and play in, and are simple enough for them to put on and take off independently.

A detailed uniform list will be provided once you have submitted the application form. All KJA merchandise can be found at Haria Outfitters.

We recognize that communication between the school and our parents as well as potential parents, is critical to building a healthy and long-term relationship.

Technology has enabled us to communicate in a variety of ways and when it comes to discussing your child, we always welcome a face-to-face conversation

Pastoral Care

At Kabete Junior Academy, we prioritise the well-being, happiness, and development of every child. Pastoral care is a key part of this commitment, supporting each child’s emotional well-being, personal growth, and overall safety. This is especially important in the early years, when children are still learning to understand and manage their emotions, build friendships, and feel secure outside of their home environment.

Our approach creates a safe, nurturing space where children feel confident, supported, and eager to explore. We are proud to support a diverse community of children and families from a wide range of cultural backgrounds, languages, and experiences.

Strong, trusting relationships between staff, children, and families lie at the heart of our kindergarten, fostering a true sense of belonging. With small class sizes, low adult-to-child ratios, and a dedicated team, we are able to focus on each child’s unique journey—nurturing their social, emotional, and academic development every step of the way.

Our Purpose

At KJA, we aim to help children:

  • Feel safe, happy, and confident in their environment

  • Develop key social and emotional skills

  • Trust that adults are always here to listen, support, and care for them

  • Receive early support when they seem worried, quiet, or upset

  • Build strong, positive connections between teachers and families.

Pastoral care is also closely linked to our safeguarding practices. It enables us to recognise early signs if something may be wrong, so we can act quickly to ensure every child’s safety and well-being.

Class Structure

  • Elephant Class is the first step in your child’s learning journey at Kabete Junior Academy. We provide a warm, welcoming environment where young children feel safe, supported, and excited to explore. Guided by nurturing early years educators, our littlest learners enjoy age-appropriate experiences that promote both comfort and curiosity.

Through sensory-rich activities, purposeful play, and plenty of outdoor exploration, we nurture your child’s overall development. Our approach supports early growth in key areas such as personal, social, and emotional development, communication and language, and physical coordination, building a strong base for future learning.

This early stage at KJA encourages children to develop independence, build relationships, and grow in confidence. With a gentle structure and engaging daily routine, the Elephant Class helps your child settle happily into school life and prepares them for a smooth and successful transition to the next class.

  • Lion Class marks your child’s next step at Kabete Junior Academy, where we nurture growing independence, curiosity, and confidence through rich, play-based learning experiences. This stage is all about discovery—making friends, exploring the world, and developing a love for learning in a warm and stimulating environment.

Our classrooms are bright and welcoming, thoughtfully designed to spark imagination and support meaningful learning. Under the guidance of experienced early years educators, children explore through hands-on activities that strengthen fine and gross motor skills, foster language development, and introduce early concepts such as colours, sounds, shapes, and numbers.

Throughout the day, children enjoy stories, songs, rhymes, and movement activities that promote literacy development and self-expression. With free access to activity areas like role play, arts and crafts, books, and sensory materials, children are encouraged to make choices, express ideas, and test new skills, laying a strong foundation for future growth.

  • In Giraffe Class at Kabete Junior Academy, we focus on fostering independence, social development, and early academic skills through a combination of self-directed play and engaging, hands-on activities. Children begin to explore basic phonics using the Jolly Phonics programme and the Oxford Reading Tree (ORT) reading scheme, while also developing number recognition through the White Rose Maths curriculum.

This balanced approach encourages curiosity, nurtures a love for learning, and lays a strong foundation for early reading, writing, and future academic growth.

Our class blends child-led exploration with teacher-guided learning to support children’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development. Creative activities such as arts and crafts help strengthen coordination, problem-solving, and self-expression. Children take part in a wide range of language-rich experiences such as speaking, listening, reading, and writing, to build strong early literacy skills. Through play and discovery, they also engage with numbers, patterns, and simple scientific concepts, developing both curiosity and critical thinking along the way.

  • In Flamingo Class at Kabete Junior Academy, children take an exciting step forward in their learning journey. They begin reading simple books and become more confident in their phonics, early writing, and number work. We continue to build on the foundations laid in earlier classes by using the Jolly Phonics programme, the Oxford Reading Tree reading scheme, and the White Rose Maths curriculum to support structured, progressive learning.

Lessons are designed to be both engaging and purposeful, with a focus on core subjects such as literacy, mathematics, and science, as well as creative experiences that make learning meaningful. Children develop skills in spelling, handwriting, sentence construction, number recognition, and problem-solving through hands-on, practical tasks. Simple science investigations encourage curiosity and early critical thinking.

This stage supports growing independence and confidence, helping children express their ideas, ask questions, and take an active role in their own learning.

  • In Hippo Class at Kabete Junior Academy, children begin a more structured approach to learning while still enjoying elements of exploration and play. Academic skills continue to grow through programmes such as Oxford Reading Tree, Letters and Sounds, and Abacus, building strong foundations in reading, writing, and mathematics.

Literacy is strengthened through creative writing, phonics, and a growing focus on spelling, punctuation, and grammar. In maths, children apply their skills to real-life situations, deepening their understanding of number, problem-solving, and reasoning. Science lessons promote curiosity through hands-on investigation, observation, and the introduction of scientific language.

Children also begin to explore the wider world through geography and history. In geography, they learn about their local environment, simple maps, and weather. In history, they are introduced to key people and events, as well as their own personal timelines.

Throughout the year, children are encouraged to express their ideas, think creatively, and work both independently and as part of a team. A variety of extra-curricular and cross-curricular activities help keep learning fun, meaningful, and engaging.
